Full of News

Welcome to this news blog. The categories below are followed by more detailed categories. Next to the latter, links to the top five to 10 articles in the most recent postings of news on that topic will rotate. In short this ends up being a virtual 'clipping service,' although many readers may not be old enough to know what a clipping service is.

Faces of the fallen

Among other characteristics of quality news coverage is the attempt to put a face on the subject matter to allow the reader to be able to relate to the issue reported. Please click here to see the 'Faces of the fallen' a site which maintains and accumulates personal information about those in the US military who have been killed. The site attempts to include a photo of each service person, the date they were killed, how they were killed and links to personal information (newspaper obituaries, surviving family information, and personal tributes to the deceased). The site also allows people to sort the list by home state of individuals, branch of the military, age and other parameters. With the media facing obstacles in putting forth certain information about the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, including the suppression of photos of flag-draped coffins returnin from those locations, this is a way for people to at least acknowledge the toll paid by so many.
